Slapton Community Support Group | Information

Some background facts about the Community Support Group (CSG).

The CSG is an official committee of Slapton Parish Council, established in October 2021, to provide resources, news and updates from DCC, SHDC and local news and enable Slapton Parish Councillors, other local interest groups and volunteer parishioners from across the community to come together and work on initiatives that are important to the sustainability of the parish under 4 core themes.

1. Climate Change
: Bio-diversity, reducing the carbon footprint of the parish

2. Supporting the adaptation to a changing world:
Broadband, A379, Electrification (Houses converting to Electricity power via solar panels, heat pumps, green energy suppliers, hydro-electricity), de-carbonisation,Tourism, Neighbourhood Plan.

3. Community research, development and well-being: 
Community surveys, engagement and volunteering, undertaken by volunteers and/or cllrs under the PC CSG brand and activities for children and young people undertaken under the ‘All Stars’ brand which is the PC/CSG sub-branding for community linked youth activities. The IOC data processing licence will underpin all data capture and surveys will ensure the work of the CSG delivers community led initiatives.

4. Crisis management and support: Health and Pandemics, Food Bank collection point, Snow, Fire, flood and road closures

The CSG group welcomes all parishioners with an interest in any of the above topics and is also interested in working alongside other local support groups and charities with a special interest in the these topics.

How we formally operate:
Community Support Group Committee Terms of Reference
The strategic and operational framework under which the Community Support Group is managed and works with the Parish Council. (Approved 24/4/21).

Climate and Environmental Emergency Statement
The Parish Council have declared a climate and environmental emergency and are strongly committed to reducing carbon emissions and supporting bio-diversity both within its own operations and within the Slapton community.

Covid-19 secure public Parish Council Meetings 
The risks and controls put in place to ensure all PC and Committee face to face meetings are covid secure working to strict capacity numbers.

Employers Liability Certificate 2021 The PC is comprehensively insured to cover CSG Volunteers and its insurance needs and demands reviewed and renewed annually.

SHDC Part 5 - Members Code of Conduct
Slapton Parish Council has adopted the District Council’s code which define the rules under which your Councillors and CSG Volunteers operate. (Adopted 6/6/19).

Complaints Proceedure 
Slapton Parish Council is committed to providing a quality service for the benefit of the people who live or work in its area or are visitors to the locality. If you are dissatisfied with the standard of service you have received from this council, or are unhappy about an action or lack of action by this council, this Complaints Procedure sets out how you may complain to the council and how we shall try to resolve your complaint.

Safeguarding Policy
Slapton Parish Council takes seriously its responsibility under the current legislation to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults; and to work together with other agencies to ensure that there are adequate arrangements within our organisation to identify and support those who are suffering harm. Where someone is suffering significant harm, or is likely to do so, action will be taken to protect that person. All Cllrs and CSG Volunteers who work directly with children, young people and vulnerable adults will have undertaken and basic DBS check.
